The Den - Jam Submission
A downloadable game
Submission for the Pirate Software 2024 January Game Jam.
The Den is tower defence game in the style of Plants vs Zombies merged XCOM like base management. I couldn't create as much content for the jam as I'd have liked, but there is a full gameplay loop.
I'm a solo dev and only a programmer, so it's all developer art and very simplistic. There are currently three enemy types, five towers you can place/unlock and four unique levels (after which the game will loop the levels with a random starting point).
-=The base=-
In your Den, you can do three things by spending gems:
Unlock tower/traps: Pay a one time fee to permanently unlock a tower / trap.
Spend gems at the nursery: Sadly, the expected lifespan of kobolds is quite short. This is where you get more! Be careful though, eventually it will be more costly to have more kobolds, they need to eat after all!
Upgrade the mines: Placing towers costs money! You need to equip your kobolds after all. This is where you can increase the money you start each level with.

Sometimes you have to defend your base from attackers! In the game jam version, there are only wild animals hungry for your food, but eventually humans will catch wind of your Den.
Enemies will spawn on the right side of the screen and make their way left. You have to place towers or traps in their way to stop them from reaching your Den. Placing towers costs both money and kobolds. Clicking a placed tower will allow you to sell it, while you don't make all your money back from selling a tower, you do save the kobold. Placing traps only costs money, and you get half of it back if you decide to sell it before it's used up.
